It’s not every day we get a brand new, off the floor Lamborghini Huracán roll through our doors, let alone an LP580-2. This Huracán is particularly unique because it’s the rear wheel drive model, which is a feature that Lamborghini hasn’t included in any of their cars in a long time.
The Huracán is a strikingly beautiful car, with some really interesting design elements and a body made from hybrid aluminum and carbon fiber. We think it’s one of the best looking cars we’ve ever worked on. But make no mistake, the Huracán has the guts to back up the looks. Sporting a 40 valve V10, the LP580-2 can go from 0-100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds and go on to a top speed of 320 km/h. All that power goes through a 7-speed double clutch transmission and on to the rear wheels. Simply put, it’s a gorgeous monster.
We were especially excited about this project due to the fact that this is the first LP580-2 in the world to have an aftermarket exhaust installed. Here at Heasman Steering, we are fortunate enough to be able to work on some pretty incredible and rare cars, but we don’t often get to work on unique projects like this that have never been done before, so this was a big one for us.
We’ve worked on a Huracán before, so we knew the challenges that lay ahead, including almost completely dismantling the rear end just to remove the OEM system. For this project, we wanted a reliable and efficient system. For us, we couldn’t look past the Frequency Intelligent Valvetronic Exhaust System from FI Exhaust. Our technician, Chris, was more than up to the challenge and was tasked with installing the new system.
This system offers FI’s cutting-edge ECU exhaust control valve, with an emphasis on the optimization of both acoustics and performance. The system can be changed from sport mode which is fully open, with a great and loud rumble, to quiet mode with the simple click of a button. These systems are great for when you want to keep it low-key or draw some much deserved attention. There is also an automatic mode which detects the engine RPM and intelligently switches between exhaust profiles depending on how you’re driving. Lastly, the muffler internals are individually designed and made for each model, which provides each exhaust with its own unique sound and performance.
After Chris had finished putting the Huracán back together, it was time to start it up. The sound was incredible and the entire workshop was very happy with the results. We had a great time working on this Huracán and we feel extremely proud to be able to say that Heasman Steering is the first workshop in the world to install an aftermarket exhaust on a LP580-2.
